Position Description

Currently valued at €8 billion, the European energy efficiency markets have lagged due to a slow sales cycle and high due diligence costs blocking access to capital and complicating project finance. To address this market failure, Joule Assets Europe provides strategic support to enable investment for Energy Reduction Assets projects, including energy efficiency, distributed renewables, storage, and building control measures. Joule's online platform, eQuad, provides access to third-party project valuation, performance insurance, project certification, due diligence, and introductions to prequalified capital sources.

Joule Assets is seeking a candidate willing to play an integral role in implementing Joule’s communication and marketing activities and assist upper management in their efforts to develop Joule Assets’ business ventures in Europe. We are looking for a candidate with strong interpersonal skills, service orientation and attention to detail to strengthen Joule Assets’ operational capabilities.

As an Energy market researcher and Content writer, the candidate will:

  • Provide Energy industry research colleting qualitative and quantitative information on market opportunities, key trends and statistics, consumer behavior, and other relevant topics

  • Condense and elaborate on findings and results by writing reports, blog posts, marketing collateral and other deliverables

  • Support communications and marketing campaigns on Joule Assets’ business development and H2020 project work

  • Support staff members as they identify, recruit and negotiate with clients (contractors, energy service companies, investors)

The candidate must be a self-starter, with a passion for and experience in energy market research and written communication.  The candidate will:

  • Acquire hands-on experience in an international business, through collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders all over Europe and the US.

  • Further develop research and writing skills through an active role in Joule Assets’ marketing and communication efforts

  • Get an in depth understanding of H2020 project work

The selected candidate will work in the Brussels office, under the supervision of Caroline Milne and Jessica Stromback. The Candidate will actively work with the Italy-based team (through conference calls and occasional face to face meetings) and will have the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from the Joule Assets US teams based out of New York (USA).

Responsibilities – the key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Market research:

    • Conducting thorough qualitative and quantitative market research

    • Writing reports and drafting collateral for Joule’s commercial outreach

  • Content writing and communication:

    • Contributing to H2020 projects, by writing Project Deliverables

    • Writing a blog posts and press releases

    • Proofread and edit content before publication

    • Supporting the writing of Grant proposals

  • Actively participate in internal strategic discussions on prioritizing initiatives

Experience – the ideal candidate will have knowledge in the following areas:

  • Native-level English speaker, French a strong asset. Other languages such as Spanish and/or Italian are additional assets

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field

  • Previous work experience in the Energy industry and content writing

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Project and event management

  • Business development

  • Interest in energy technology and sustainability

Compensation and Scope

Full time paid internship for a 6-months fixed period at 40 hours per week located in Brussels, Belgium, with a monthly salary of €1’000. Keep in mind that 90% of our permanent employees started as interns. The successful candidate is expected to start in July 2019.
